Routine dental cleaning helps preventing accumulation of bacteria, tartar and hard deposits between your teeth and gums and helps keep oral cavity healthy. It is advised that one should get a scaling/dental cleaning once in 6 months. If required, in some individuals a cleaning is done once in 3 months.

Most scaling procedures last b/w 30 min -1 hour on an average, followed by education and awareness of correct brushing technique and materials to be used

A routine dental examination will lead the dentist to ask about your habit’s history, symptoms and a biopsy (sample of the lesion is taken and sent for lab testing) would be done for the confirmatory diagnosis.

Abnormal white or gray area, red area or group of red spots, ulcerative lesions found on the tongue, gums, inside of the cheek or under the tongue are some of the common signs which needs an investigation.

Close bi-annual follow up is recommended in patients diagnosed with oral pre-cancerous lesion. In patients with high risk factors such as tobacco use, immunosuppression or severe dysplastic changes a quarterly follow up is recommended.
